Thankfully Fermor landed on his shoulder, however Penisini was sin-binned for the tackle with referee Gerard Sutton saying it was “very dangerous and high risk of injury.”

Given it is his first offence Smith is facing a two-week ban with an early guilty plea or three weeks if he chooses to fight it and fails.

The tackle occurred in the 62nd minute on Phillip Sami, who was already being tackled by two other Eels players before Smith entered and lifted his legs. 22-year-old Smith, who apologised profusely to Sami, was placed on report but spared the sin bin.
