‘Do I look like I need a break?’: Hasler’s testy reply on future as Titans bid to avoid spoon

The loss means the Titans need to beat the Tigers in Round 27 and hope the Knights lose to the Eels to avoid the wooden spoon.

Hasler was pressed on how long his break from coaching would be after the season, which drew an agitated response.

“What are you trying to say? Do I look like I need a break?” Hasler said.

“Thank you, but I’m doing just fine. I appreciate it. Thank you.

“I enjoy coaching definitely. It’s more than a job. It’s a passion. I enjoy it.”

Hasler admitted the Titans gave away too big a start, but was proud of his side for storming back from 18-0 down to draw level at half-time.

“It was certainly a slow start,” Hasler said.

“We were not near our intensity and it was just the simple parts of the game, so it wasn’t a good start.

“But I thought we did really well in applying ourselves and we got back into the game at 18-18 and then from there I thought we should have gone on with it.

“We went into half time and then to start the second half just two really pretty easy soft tries I think.

“We should have just made the tackles, gave them their kick start again, we came back again and then played enough field position and had enough ball and I think we probably bombed two tries, one in the corner in the first half and the forward pass in the second half.

“So we had ample opportunity to win that game.”

Titans skipper Tino Fa’asuamaleaui urged his side to finish their season on a high and send two legends out in the right way.

“It was not a good start,” Fa’asuamaleaui said.

“They piled on the points straight away and it hurt us in end, so us as starters need to be better, the whole team needs to be better and we need to fix our game going into next week because it is a big game for us and we want to win next week.

“We don’t want to finish on the bottom, especially to send Des out on a good note and Foz (Foran) too. They played a big part in the last two years and they show a lot of care and they work very hard.

“People don’t see that and we just want to get them a win to send them off the right way.”
